welcome to the Surrey Assessment Centre
Disabled Students Allowances
Support for disabled students in higher education generally comes from two different sources. One is the university or college itself, and the other is through something called the Disabled Students Allowances (or DSA for short), which is funding provided by the government to cover the costs of any support you may need.
A very thorough and fruitful process conducted in a clear, insightful, understanding and highly professional manner.
I had an amazing experience at Surrey Assessment Centre for my DSA assessment. I felt a lot more confident afterwards that I’d manage my studies as well as health issues. My assessor made me feel very at ease and comfortable throughout. Thank you!
My experience at Surrey Assessment Centre was very good. Comfortable I would say! A very friendly assessor who made me feel less apprehensive about my DSA support for my studies. I definitely would recommend this centre highly! Thank you for your warm reception!
My assessor was very nice and made me feel relaxed and comfortable. They asked lots of questions to ensure they could request the best equipment for my needs, without making it feel like an interrogation. I struggled to find the entrance to the centre and received excellent directions over the phone, as well as someone coming to meet me in the car park to make sure I didn’t get lost again!
The assessor has been so helpful through My journey with DSA. I have always felt listened to and have always been responded to quickly and helpfully. My assessment was very thorough and I felt that the assessor really tried to personalise my assessment and ensure I got exactly what would help me. I’m still in regular correspondence and have been well supported by all of the staff at the Surrey assessment centre. I have been provided with excellent and professional service.
A special thanks to my assessor, who carried out my assessment! The process from receiving my entitlement letter up until starting university with my new laptop was made very clear and dead easy to follow. The assessor was incredibly helpful with regards to assessing what I needed for uni and thanks to them I am now making very good use of the software and hardware that was provided! Thank you so very much!! 🙂
Your needs Assessment
The needs assessment is an opportunity for you to discuss the things that you feel are struggling with due to your disability, specific learning difficulty or health condition, and then evaluate the strategies available to support these areas.
While the support available for students at university can be considerable, what about support before then? We offer pupils studying in years 10 upwards an opportunity to attend an assessment to identify free and low-cost technical support for their studies.
We are based in St Paul’s House in Farnham, about 10 minutes walk from the University of the Creative Arts and town centre. Our office has dedicated parking and is fully accessible. We offer assessments to all students who have applied for DSA funding.
Needs assessment appointments are currently available Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm. However, if you can’t find an appointment time to suit you, please give us a call and we’ll move things around to accommodate you.
